Rebook WWE Money In The Bank 2020

Reshuffeling

WWE Money In The Bank 2020

So What is reshuffeling?

In this series we are going to explore how a wrestling promotion's event, feud or wrestler could or should have happened, and hopefully by this we would have been able to reshuffle the landscape of wrestling towards the way we want it to be.

And for the inaugural shuffle, lets reshuffle this Sunday's WWE Money In The Bank 2020!

So Why Money In The Bank to be the first?

(Except for the fact that it is this Sunday....)

Well with the current global situation harming WrestleMania 36's build and making matches that were built superbly beforehand like Randy Orton vs Edge, Becky Lynch vs Shayna Basizler and Otis vs Dolph Ziggler and hurt them badly, at Money In The Bank, WWE were prepared for this and actually pulled out a couple of decent matches.

One major problem though, we are 2 days away from the PPV and we only have 5 matches, with two of them are going to happen simultaneously!! And may I remind you all what we have gotten the last time WWE didn't treat their PPV like one, aka. Hell In A Cell 2019, aka. who the hell thinks that booking a referee stoppage in a Hell In A Cell match would work?!

The "unsanctioned corporate briefcase chase" is a nice way to try and work out the situation at hand, so keeping with that gimmick - this is how I would have reshuffeled Money In The Bank 2020.

Quick dive into the reshuffeled event

AJ Styles wins the Men's Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Nia Jax wins the Women's Money In The Bank Ladder Match
Drew Mcintyre retains the WWE Championship over Seth Rollins
Braun Strowman retains the WWE Universal Championship over Sheamus
Jeff Hardy defeats Bray Wyatt
The Miz and John Morrison retain the SmackDown Tag Titles over The New Day
Andrade retains the United States Championship over Apollo Crews
Dolph Ziggler and Sonya Deville defeat Mandy Rose and Otis

Kickoff show match: Ricochet and Cedric Alexander defeat Shane Thorne and Brendan Vink in a two out of three falls tag team match.

The Titan Towers Theft contests

Lets begin with the Money In The Bank Ladder match.
From the Men's side of things I will have Daniel Bryan, King Corbin, Drew Gulak, Aleistar Black, Rey Mysterio and AJ Styles.
From the Women's side of things I will have Asuka, Nia Jax, Shayna Basizler, Sasha Banks, Lacey Evans and Alexa Bliss.

In regards to the Men's match, I think AJ Styles is the person who should win this. Idealy the best character to this gimmick in the current global situation is King Corbin, but this will not work either with my women's pick or the current world title scene. AJ Styles should win it as a prop to elevate his character after the Taker feud, and what I would do is have him and Aleistar Black resume their feud from before WM, ending in a Ladder match at Summer Slam for the briefcase, with Aleistar winning the briefcase.
Then maybe even in the same night you have Black cash in on whoever is Universal Championship, hopefully Wyatt, moving to SmackDown. This gives the correct character the briefcase, the correct wrestler the world title shot and the contract to be cashed in on the correct champion.
This can also drive Styles to go nuts and just become a vicious hard hitter heading into a 2021 Royal Rumble win and a date with Drew Mcintyre at WrestleMania 37.

Regarding the women's title - I think it is a no-brainer for me and it is one of two options. Either Nia Jax or Sasha Banks. People like Lacey Evans, Alexa Bliss, Asuka and so does not need this win, and can get themselves in and out of the women's title scene in the current landscape. Shayna Basizler's character does not fit this briefcase, so I'll have Becky Lynch cost her this match. Now this is the question whether you would like Nia Jax to cash in on Becky Lynch after a long time of chasing Basizler (who needs to win that title soon), to get nuclear hit down the line (maybe at the Rumble), or on the other hand have Sasha Banks turn on Bayley to win this. The question is what kind of cash in do you want - a swerve and kind of a face turn, or a nuclear heel heat moment. I would go with the second one, as Banks cannot turn face while cashing in MITB and those can be two different moments. Regarding each one's options down the line I am going speak futher in the Women's title analysis in a bit, but for now I would absolutley have it be Nia Jax.

WWE Universal Championship Match

So this is a tricky one. Basically WWE gave us two good matchups for the world titles on this PPV. They have given us Seth Rollins challenging Drew Mcintyre, and they have given us Bray Wyatt (not the fiend) challenging newely unplanned Universal Champion Braun Strowman.

Regarding the Universal Championship situation I actually think this is a matter of whether or not WWE plans to have Strowman remain Universal Champion for long, and I do not know the answer to this question. When we look at SmackDown's top ranks now, without Roman Reigns, who do we have that can be world champion? Daniel Bryan? does not make sense at this point. Shinsuke Nakamura? - god he was squashed by Strowman and he is barely upper midcard now. Sheamus? A challenge - yes, a champion - god no. Jeff Hardy? If you want to stick it to AEW, then I guess. The only two viable options to take this belt away from Braun at this point are Bray Wyatt and Baron Corbin (at least from who is on the SmackDown side).

Corbin could have been a good world champion, much better than Braun is for sure. He would have made himself the lone wolf in the audience sitting down on a throne examinating his peers in the ring every SmackDown, kind of inspired by Michael Cole's box in 2011. For this to work though, he needed to be the one defeating Goldberg, and to be honest, unless it was Wyatt, I think he should have been the one to beat Goldberg. But I do not want to see Corbin vs Strowman ever again.

So we are left with Wyatt and WWE already pulled the plug to do this feud now, and I think that down the line (after shennanigans in the real MITB PPV) he is going to defeat Braun to win the title. This is nice for Bray - but he will lose eventually which could really hurt him, but will destroy Braun.

The way I would have reshuffeled it would have been to take two feuds we have right now and switch them around, giving us Strowman vs Sheamus and Wyatt vs Jeff Hardy. Sheamus will not be hurt by a loss or two to Strowman in competitive 10-15 minute brawls, Wyatt would be. On the other hand Jeff just returned to SmackDown, and WWE did huge success with the Firefly Fun House at Mania, so why do not revisit this success from a different angle? Don't have them fight in the funhouse, but have them in the ring, with Wyatt trying hardly to control Jeff's demons. What is important is that maybe Wyatt should lose this one for handling Jeff too lightly, then after the match Wyatt transforms into The Fiend and kidnapps Jeff. This will make for a future situation where Jeff and Bray can return as partners, possibly with Wyatt gunning Universal gold, and Jeff gunning IC title gold or just standing by Wyatt.

This could have been perfect, and also would have added an additional and needed match to the card, built up Strowman and give Wyatt and Hardy something interesting to do to delay the inevitable Strowman vs Wyatt feud.

WWE Championship Match

Well that is indeed interesting. I am torn here. On one hand I think Rollins does not make much sense as a first opponent for Mcintyre, as he has lost at WrestleMania to Kevin Owens. On the other hand Rollins has been on fire the last month and him and Murphy are great.

Contrary to that I think there is money to be made in a Mcintyre vs Andrade feud, that they practically wasted the last couple of weeks on Raw.

After thinking about it I have decided that Rollins vs Mcintyre is the right way to go, as Andrade can be the next challenger down the line towards Summer Slam. I would have Murphy accidentally cost Rollins the match here, leading to a triple threat Mcintyre vs Rollins vs Murphy at the next PPV.

SmackDown Women's Championship Match

Poor Bayley. I think her title run has been mediocre at best, and should have been better with her vs Banks leading to WrestleMania 36. But this will be delayed, possibly until the crowd returns to the arenas. In the meantime, I think WWE should have given us an interesting challenger, and sadly Tamina is not that.

Not to say that this was really bad, cause it was a decent between the two, but there is just no way Tamina wins, and nobody cares about this match.

As I have suggested in the MITB predictions post I had, I think Dana Brooke should have gotten the shot here, and actually if I were WWE, just to spice things up I would have had her win.

Important to say I would have had her win be a bit ditry. We have Banks and Bayley vs Carmella and Brooke here. So I would have Banks take out Carmella with the boss brass knuckles she has backstage before the match. Then after a decent match, Banks gives Bayley the brass knuckles, but Bayley accidentally hits Banks. This allows Brooke to come from behind and use WWE's most unique finisher - the roll up, to get the 3 and the women's title.

Obviously before we have crowds again Brooke will drop the title. But if it were up to me she would have dropped it to Sasha Banks. Banks win the SmackDown women's title without Bayley's help. Then Bayley starts to be frustrated with Banks not needing her help, finally turning on her (hopefully with crowd) leading to a women's title feud between the two.

But for now lets say the card would have been reshuffeled with Brooke out of the Money In The Bank in order to win her first WWE Women's Championship.

Raw Women's Championship

Well this title is not on the line this Sunday, and to be honest I do not think it should be. The top 3 possible challengers for the title are in the Money In The Bank Ladder match (as they should) - Jax, Basizler and Asuka. I think we just need a little bit of time before doing a Basizler vs Lynch rematch again, and we need to build the anymosity between the two.

So in order to do that I would have Lynch involved in the Women's MITB match and costing Basizler the chance to win the contract. That we build up the two for a future match, and Shayna does not look even weaker by losing another match.

Mid Card Championships

So at the moment it looks like there are not going to be mid card title defenses on this PPV. With Sami Zayn choosing to stay at home it is clearly understandable why we couldn't have an IC Title match, but Andrade has been a prominent part of Raw since WrestleMania.

If it were up to me I would have given Apollo Crews his US Title match that he had on Raw here instead. He should have never qualified to the MITB Ladder Match. They should have given him a win in a tag match over Andrade leading to a clash with Andrade here where he would have been kayfabe injured like in reality.

This would allow Crews to defeat Andrade in the next PPV, beginning a nice US title reign, maybe with a feud against Jinder Mahal. That way Andrade can go on to the world title picture, Crews gets a nice push and in the meanwhile he will get a couple of wins over a former WWE Champion in Jinder.

Don't hinder the Jinder!!

Tag Team Championships

This is another complicated situation. In the SmackDown side, don't know whether I am for The New Day's title win on SmackDown, as if it was up to me Miz and Morrison could have remained champions for a while. The difference makers there are The Forgotten Sons, which WWE seems to like. I think that though they are a really decent team, they shouldn't be near the top of the tag division right now. I think the plug was pulled to quickly on Miz and Morrison and that they should have still been champs here. With The Usos out of the equation there is no need for another New Day tag title reign, and I would have Miz and Morrison vs The New Day here in a street fight of sorts - maybe an empty city street fight? Could have been creative..

Then we have Miz and Morrison going to feud with Bryan and Gulak, leading to an eventual title loss to Heavy Machinery down the line. Around that time is where The Forgoteen Sons could be involved, but I am getting ahead of myself. For Money In The Bank - It's Miz and Morrison over The New Day.

On the Raw side of things it is a tricky one. If we want it we can have Street Profits vs Viking Raiders on the kickoff, but feels to me this feud is one of the last feuds they have in the curerntly really weak raw tag division after all the releases. The Profits should not drop the titles for now. They have destroyed any intimidation The Viking Raiders had, and the street profits are a decent team. I think that this match could be saved for down the line, and instead Ricochet and Cedric Alexander could go against MVP's boys Thorne and Vink in a grudge two out of three falls match on the kickoff.

And how can we forget Otis..

So the logical continuation for the Otis vs Ziggler feud should have resulted in a mixed tag team match between himself and Mandy vs Dolph and Deville. And I think it's the evil duo's time to win some. This match not happening is a genuine surprise to me, so maybe they are just delaying it for a future PPV. I think we should have Ziggler trying to hit Otis with a superkick accidentally hitting Mandy. Then he is starting to cry, but Deville just maliciously attacks Rose and defeats her for the win. This will make Deville look dominant hopefully heading towards a SmackDown Women's title reign in the fall of 2020.
